Victor BRAUNER - Detailed biography

Victor Brauner was born in Piatra Neamt, Romania, on January 15 1903. He represented with Constantin Brancusi, Eugène Ionesco and others, the important romanian community of painters and writers in Paris. He studied at the Art school in Bucharest from 1919 to 1921 and had his first personal exhibition in 1924. He actively worked on paintings, drawings and writings in dada magazines. Brauner moved to Paris in 1930 when Yves Tanguy introduced him into the Surrealist circle. In 1933, Andre Breton opened Brauner’s first personal exhibition in Paris, at the Pierre Gallery. Known as the “painter of premonitions”, he died on March 1966 in Paris.
